Crochet can feel overwhelming. There are thousands of videos, patterns, and tutorials available, but too few explain whytechniques work or how the pieces fit together. Fibre Arts for the Soul was created to help you build confidence one concept at a time, so you don’t just follow patterns—you understand the craft.

Whether you’re picking up a hook for the very first time or returning to crochet after years away, you’ll find thoughtful lessons, practical resources, and projects designed to build both your skills and your confidence. Every tutorial, resource, and pattern is created with one goal in mind: to help you understand not only how to crochet, but why each technique matters.

At Fibre Arts for the Soul, we believe the most meaningful handmade pieces aren’t simply finished—they’re understood. When you understand your stitches, your materials, and your construction choices, you gain the confidence to create, adapt, troubleshoot, and eventually design projects of your own. That’s where creativity truly begins.

About Kelly:

I’ve loved art and design for as long as I can remember. I was also that kid who, at eight years old, took apart a transistor radio my grandfather had given me because I wanted to understand how it worked. Fortunately, instead of getting upset, he sat down with me, explained what each part did, and helped me put it back together in working order.

Looking back, I realize that moment shaped how I approach learning—and how I teach today. I’ve always believed that understanding why something works builds confidence in a way that simply following instructions never can.

That philosophy has stayed with me throughout my life. Whether I’m learning something new, solving a problem, or teaching crochet, I find myself asking the same questions: Why does this work? What happens if we change it? How do all the pieces fit together?

Fibre Arts for the Soul grew from those questions. My goal isn’t simply to help you finish a project—it’s to help you understand the craft, so you can confidently troubleshoot, adapt, and eventually create something that’s uniquely your own.

My degrees and background are in design and architecture.  However, my careers always somehow coupled design with technology, be it AutoCAD GIS and database systems to Building Information Modeling and Computerized Maintenance  Management Systems  I love understanding the whys and how’s behind the workings of things, and  I get jazzed up by problem solving and supporting and sharing / teaching with others. I’m probably a bit of a geek.

I deeply feel and appreciate music, everything from big band, jazz, blues, rock, opera (la Boheme is playing as a write this).  

My hope is that my love for crochet and it’s whys and hows, eliminates frustratration, providing an encouraging and approaching method of teaching for those new to crochet while still remaining valuable for more seasoned crocheters.

I deeply feel and appreciate music, everything from big band, jazz, blues, rock, opera (la Boheme is playing as a write this) and typically have a song lyric for every situation.

• Favorite Dog Breed:  Mastiffs.  I own a Cane Corso (Mae) and and English Mastiff (Rye).  I’m sure you both see and hear hints of them in my videos.
• Mantras: Give yourself the grace to be imperfect, Fit for Purpose, Save your money for Yarn, Not everything needs to be hard!
• Children: 3, twin boys and a daughter
