How do you tell which set of abbreviations is used?
- Do read the beginning of the pattern. Most newer patterns will have an “Abbreviations Used” section.
- If the smallest basic stitch is a Double Crochet (dc) it’s probably a UK pattern.
- Look for the Half stitches. US is hdc (half double) UK is htr (half treble).
- Terms like gauge, color and skein, and fiber are US terms. The terms tension, colour, ball and fibre are terms primarily used in the UK.
- Finally look at the pattern and ask yourself, does this make sense?
